Mobb Deep Show Violence, Beat Street Closes, Cena Vs K-Fed

A recent overseas concert by rap duo Mobb Deep turned violent when an overzealous fan allegedly got into a scuffle with security at the club where the show was held. According to reports, the incident occurred Friday (Dec. 15) during a Mobb Deep performance in Belgium. The fan began fighting with security after being kicked out of the VIP area of the club. According to sources, a the fan returned to the venue with friends after leaving the club and the collective sprayed the VIP area with bottles, injuring G-Unit member 40 Glocc. The rapper received a cut on his hand after one of the bottles ricocheted off the wall, hitting him. A brawl ensued, yet Mobb Deep and 40 Glocc left the club safely. The Belgium show was one of a series of performances on Mobb Deep's European tour. Mobb Deep will appear in Athens, Greece tonight (Dec. 20), Dublin, Ireland on Thursday (Dec. 21) and Munich, Germany on Friday Dec. 22). Once the tour wraps, 40 Glocc will return to the United States to promote his upcoming mixtape. The DJ Whoo Kid hosted project will hit stores in January. Popular Brooklyn record store Beat Street has officially closed its doors, citing a downturn in record sales. According to reports, the legendary store, which was opened in 1995 on Fulton Street, could not compete with the Internet, a trend that has also forced the shutdown of numerous mom and pop stores and majors like Tower Records, which will close all stores by the end of 2006. WWE champion rapper John Cena is preparing for a battle, with Britney Spears' ex-husband and rapper Kevin Federline. Cena and Federline will brawl at WWE's New Year’s Revolution event, which takes place on New Years Day in Miami. Federline, who has said he hates his nickname of K-Fed, recently issued a challenge to Cena. "The real Kevin Federline never backs down from a challenge," Federline said on Monday Night Raw in Washington, D.C.

Back in the 90s, some of the best Hip-Hop and R&B came from film soundtracks. Major label artists weren't releasing albums and mixtapes every 8 months, so soundtracks were a great way to stay on the scene. Remember Above the Rim and New Jersey Drive? The Show? Sunset Park? It was almost a given that any halfway decent film would have a major soundtrack to go with it, often times eclipsing the movie itself. Today, between new marketing opportunities and quicker release cycles for solo artists, soundtracks have fallen to the wayside as a promotional tool for record labels and film studios alike. Still, when musicals or dance themed pictures come around, it only makes sense to attempt to take a page out of the old book, bringing us to Save the Last Dance 2 (Mass Appeal). While the album does pull in a few chart-topping artists, it comes nowhere near the level of star power that soundtracks once had. Most of the songs come from rookies, and few of them are impressive. Ne-Yo and Rihanna provide by-the-numbers entries ("Watch You Dance" and "The Hotness", respectively) that do a little more than get their names on the tracklist. Meanwhile, it's unlikely that Jalen or Boxie will gain any new fans with the uninspired "All I Need" or "Bridging the Gap." There are a handful of decent attempts in the mix nonetheless. Candace Jones's neo-soul style on "You and Me" isn't necessarily groundbreaking, but is a serviceable use of a familiar style. Jaiden's "Escape" shows signs of effort, and those who are already fans of Cassie should enjoy "Kiss Me." The album certainly fares better if you listen to it on your feet since it heavily leans toward the dance mood of the movie, but those combing for gems will find little. Save the Last Dance 2 certainly shows a new appropriate use for soundtracks: showcasing new artists by packaging them with more popular ones and capitalizing on the film's potential success. If the idea is to work though, everyone involved will have to give just a little bit more for listeners to stick around long enough to get familiar with the new-jacks. In this case, the collection is appropriate background music for the film, but won't add much to any other part of your day.

In 2004, Snoop Dogg scored his biggest hit in the post riding shotgun with Dr. Dre years with The Neptunes-assisted "Drop it Like it's Hot". But while R&G was aimed at the charts with Southern and East Coast-seasoned production, Snoop's Tha Blue Carpet Treatment (Doggystyle/Geffen) uses production from in and out of California, culminating in an album that lyrically spotlights the West Coast sound, style, and legacy. While The Game is turning heads and churning charts with an energetic flow and hard-nosed lyrics, Snoop faithfully follows his script of laid back drawl and pimpish charm, a gift and a curse. "Conversations" may be the wisest Snoop has ever sounded. As DJ Pooh re-recorded Stevie Wonder singing his classic, "Have a Talk With God", Snoop preaches to wayward women and misled youth over one of the best examples of feel-good music in 2006. In contrast though, "Gangbangin' 101" highlights some of the most blatant gang references heard on a mainstream record since the DJ Quik/MC Eiht glory years. As The Game tells a story of running out of gas in Crip infested streets, Snoop uncovers elements of being jumped in and rising the ranks. Speaking of Eiht, he, E-40, Tha Dogg Pound, and Goldie Loc appear on "Candy". Though the track shows Snoop's rekindling with four former adversaries, and one legend, "Candy" feels like an overstuffed mixtape effort. Rick Rock supplies another looped-up Digable Planets beat, carbon-copy to his "Yay Area" for E-40. Tha Blue Carpet Treatment is the most Dr. Dre has participated on a Snoop album since 199's over-hyped Tha Last Meal. Though none of the three collaborations have that smash hit sound, the quality is impeccable. "Imagine" sees Dre on the mic, admiring the accolades of the 15-year contribution he and Snoop have made over a minimalist piano beat. Veteran producers Rhythm D and Battlecat supplied "A B***h I Knew", which has the thump and the chorus of an early Too Short classic. Timbaland gives Snoop a classic gem "Get a Light", which is an eerie drum-and-bass creation that not only appeases the club crowd, but allows Snoop to get convincingly gangsta on a pop track, something he's failed to do since "B***h Please". Just as Nas had repeatedly tried to outdo Illmatic, Snoop appears to be chasing his Doggstyle hunger pains. Thus, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment is not about being a boss, but rather an album that recognizes all levels of the street struggle. From The Game and Akon to MC Eiht and DJ Pooh, Snoop recognizes his formers and followers better than ever before. Tha Doggfather plays his position, coercing old and new fans to respect his gangsta, by giving both crowds an album they can trust.

The game is based on the hit television show of the same name, which features the rapper/actor transforming old, beat-up cars into lavish, exotic, luxury vehicles. Users navigate through the fictional Pimp City, with a timed goal of besting a rival shop that is working on similar, tricked out ride. Other features include open racing through the streets of Pimp City and a mini-game called "Ghost Whip The Ride," that allows gamers character to dance next to their moving pimped out ride. Kanye Named World's Best Hip-Hop Artist, Michael Jackson's 'Come Back' Falters

The World Music Awards took place in London for the first time last night (Nov. 15). The evening, which paid special tribute to Michael Jackson, was billed as a come back event for the world's biggest pop star, but the evening turned out to be a case of more hype than action. Hundreds of fans waited for hours outside Earls Court arena in West London to get a glimpse of the 'King of Pop.' Fans were left disappointed after Jackson failed to greet them when he arrived at the venue, resulting in angry jeers from the crowd. The show was opened by Beyonce Knowles, who performed a mix of her hit singles "Ring the Alarm" and "Deja Vu," which was arguably the best performance of the night. During the night, Beyonce also won the award for Best International Female, which was presented to her by Fashion Icon and fragrance partner, Tommy Hilfiger. Other winners included Kanye West, who was named World's Best Hip-Hop Artist, besting the likes of TI, Busta Rhymes and Chamillionaire, who was incorrectly announced as "Shamillionaire." The World's Best Pop Artist was given to Madonna and the World's Best Pop/Rock Artist went to Nelly Furtado. Organizers had announced that Michael Jackson would perform his hit single "Thriller," but Jackson claimed this was a "misunderstanding." Instead, R&B singer Chris Brown performed the legendary 1983 hit single. Jackson was recognized for selling over 100 million albums worldwide with a Diamond Award, which was presented by Beyonce. "He's made such a big impact on my life and on every performer's life," Beyonce said. "Michael Jackson, we love you. Congratulations to the King". During an emotional speech, Jackson thanked his friends, family and fans. "I'm greatly humbled by this award. It was my dream that Thriller would become the biggest selling album ever," Jackson said. "I thank God and you for it's success. There have been so many who have loved and stood by me for the 25 years I have been in the entertainment industry. I'd like to thank my children particularly Paris, Prince and Blanket for their unconditional love." Finally, a teenage choir appeared singing the 1985 mega hit, "We Are The World." It was supposed to be a step towards Jackson's come back, but the performance fell flat. Jackson managed to sing only a few lines of the song and during the fleeting performance, his voice appeared to crack and falter on the high notes. The performance finished midway, when the musical accompaniment suddenly disappeared. Organizers of the annual World Music Awards have also been criticized for a chaotic and unorganized evening.

DMC, DMX Celebrate 'Day Of The Child'

Hip-Hop icon Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of Run-DMC and rapper DMX are among the performers at this year's Day of the Child celebration tomorrow (Nov. 18) at Chelsea Piers in New York. Presented by New York City’s Administration for Children's Services and Children Uniting Nations, the Day of the Child is described as the community's way of reaching out to at-risk youth in an effort to expose them to mentors who are available to help and guide them. Mentored children are more likely to find ways of surviving within the community without turning to crime, drugs or gangs. More than 500 youths will be paired with adult volunteer mentors, while spending the day getting to know each other and exploring what a long-term mentoring relationship might entail. The goal of the event is to recruit mentors for at-risk youth, including those living in foster care. Additionally, the celebration will include musical performances from Mario and DJ Miss Saigon and the chance to mingle with celebrity guests, who will participate in games and activities. Expected to attend are New York City’s Administration for Children's Services Commissioner John Mattingly, New York Liberty point guard Loree Moore and members from World Wrestling Entertainment. Ludacris Joins the Search For Runaways

Rapper/actor Ludacris is aiding in the search for runaway youth through his nonprofit, Ludacris Foundation, teaming up with Along with the National Runaway Switchboard, the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network and Essence Cares to bring awareness to the issue. The effort is part of the Switchboard's public education campaign to increase awareness of issues facing America's runaways, as well as educate the public on solutions and roles they can play in preventing youth from running away. November has been deemed National Runaway Prevention Month. The venture coincides with the release of "Runaway Love" featuring Mary J. Blige, the second single off Ludacris' latest album Release Therapy. "This is not just a runaway problem; this is my problem--this is your problem. This is our problem. This is our opportunity to lend a hand," Ludacris said during a recent visit to an Atlanta-based runaway shelter. The lyricist will be on hand Tuesday (Nov. 14) to officially announce the partnership with Russell Simmons, Dr. Ben Chavis, Susan Taylor, Roberta Shields and Maureen Blaha at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola in New York. DMX Sells Harlem Brownstone

DMX is reportedly selling his three-story Harlem, N.Y., brownstone for $1.9 million, having realized that he hasn't utilized the space. The Yonkers, N.Y., rapper (born Earl Simmons) bought the Fifth Avenue spot, which is opposite Mount Morris Park, in 2001 for $750,000 in cash, according to the New York Times. It was purchased during what was considered the "Harlem Brownstone Revival." At the time, many celebrities invested in similar brownstones in the culture-rich Manhattan neighborhood. DMX's home has remained empty and desolate, the rapper said, because it is technically a rooming house, which means it is protected by city rules and cannot be rented out as individual apartments. The rapper said he paid $300,000 to a contractor, who is allegedly no longer in business, to obtain a new certificate of occupancy but the work was never completed. In 2002, a building inspector issued a stop-work order because construction was being done without a permit. DMX was fined $2,500 when he did not show up for a hearing regarding the construction. He was later sued for $210,000 by an electrician who fell off a ladder while working on a light over the front door--another case where Simmons did not show up to court. While the home remained vacant, a pipe burst during the winter of 2003, flooding the home and causing considerable damage. The Worker's Compensation Board later put a $30,000 lien on the home and the IRS placed an additional $370,459 lien on DMX's property due to unpaid taxes, according to city records. After transferring the deed to the home to his wife, Tashera Simmons, to prevent further liens, he hired a new team to file new plans to legalize the conversion from a rooming into four apartments. Trisha Lum, DMX's manager, said last week that DMX was on tour in Germany, and that the late mortgage payments in the past had been due to changes in the rapper's record label staff. Lum added that DMX was working with the I.R.S. to resolve the lien over his back taxes. "This place has been basically vacant all this time," she said. "We are getting a new certificate of occupancy." At press time, Lincoln Minott, the agent handling the sale, noted that there was an offer of $1.6 million on the house, contingent on obtaining the new certificate of occupancy. Menurut cerita, ada seorang DJ amrik keturunan Jamaika yang bernama DJ Kool Herc yang menemukan cara bermain Turntable dengan gaya menggaruk plat alias Scratching. Ternyata gaya tersebut asyik untuk dipertontonkan. DJ keling itu juga yang pertama kali membawa crowd keluar arena alias outdoor. Tapi perlu diingat, jangan sampai ketukar sama DJ Rave cing. Soalnya ini jelas beda scene. DJ Hip-Hop lebih banyak berkutat dalam teknik, macam scratch, cross-fader, mix, beat juggling dan lainnya. Sementara DJ rave yang mempunyai banyak aliran seperti house, drum n'bass, techno, trance, garage sampai jungle itu lebih banyak fokus dalam ngeracik sound. DJ Hip-Hop berfungi untuk mengiringi MC. Dari beat yang dimainkan DJ, orang bakal tahu mereka memainkan Rap jenis apa. Kalau beatnya cepat, biasanya old school seperti DJ Jazzy Jeff dan Africa Bambatta. Tapi kalau New School, beatnya akan lebih lambat. Dinegeri asalnya. setiap ada event selalu ada set dimana DJ bisa mamerin aksi scratching dan mixing. tidak jarang mereka akan saling beradu kepiawaian dalam ajang yang disebut DJ Battle. Maka dari itu yang namanya DJ Hip-hop sebenarnya harus rajin-rajin nguklik style scratchingnya. Nambah-nambah jurus baru biar gak dilewati sama kompetitornya. Tapi DJ Hp-Hop disini masih Playing belum Mixing, jadi belum ketahuan mana yang lebih jago. Dan....DJ Hip-Hop di Indonesia terbilang masih sedikit dibandingkan dengan DJ House atau Disko.

Elemen Hip-Hop yang satu ini memang menonjol sekali. Sebab disinilah semua pesan yang ingin disampaikan bisa didengar. Sebelum dikenal dengan istilag Rap, berbicara dengan irama yang diiringi dengan musik disebut MC. Sejarah Rap sendiri berakar dari seni Jamaika yang disebut toasting. Artis veteran seperti The Last Poets, James Brown dan Gil Scott Heron mengawali rap lewat kata-kata berirama yang sering mengambil dari Jargon-jargon para tahanan. Kata-kata rap sendiri mulai diasosiasikan dengan Hip-hop sekitar tahun 1979 ketika King Tim III merilis album Personality Jock dan Sugar Hill Gang dengan Rappers Delight. KEduanya yang akhirnya menjadi titik awal Rap menjadi bagian penting musik hip-hop. Adalah seorang aktivis kulit hitam bernama H. Rap Brown membuat rap menjelma seperti sekarang. Meski dulu Rap sempat terkenal sebagai cara merayu bahkan menipu orang lain, kini Rap menjadi media seni yang bisa berisi apa saja. Caci maki, sindiran, kritik sosial, ekspresi diri dan sebagainya. Sekarang ini terdapat gaya Rap yang bermacam-macam. Salah satunya adalah Free Style alias gaya bebas. Disini tidak mengenal irama kayak Rap seperti biasanya. Semua keluar begitu saja.

Perjalanan CLAN

Perjalanan Grup CLAN penuh dengan liku-liku. Karena Personilnya mempunyai kesibukan sendiri-sendiri. Maka CLAN istirahat hingga saat ini. Melihat hal tersebut, Adipati Panser mencoba berpikir positif. Adipati Panser tetap berkreasi menciptakan lagu-lagu terbaru. Tidak lama, pihak IMC mengontak Adipati Panser untuk membuat proyek baru. Proyek yang lumayan menantang dan lain daripada yang lain. Proyek iru adalah membaut album dengan aliran Hip-Hop Campursari. Akhirnya IMC membentuk Prabu dengan personel dua orang, takni adipati Panser dan Azka Da Kaufman. Lewat kerja keras, dalam waktu cuma dua bulan, akbum PRABU akhirnya bisa di release. Album yang sangat menguras tenaga dan pikiran. Namun setelah melihat hasilnya, Puas rasanya. Dalam Album tersebut PRABU menggandeng penyanyi campursari yang sudah tidak asing lagi namanya yakni Didi Kempot dan Safitri. Album tersebut menjadi album ketiga dari Adipati Panser. Sekarang klip dari PRABU bisa disaksikan di televisi Lokal Jawa Tengah dan Jawa Timur.

Setelah gabung dengan Brotherhood

Setelah gabung bersama Hip-Hop Brotherhood , Adipati Panser merasakan ketidakcocokan dengan manajemen Brotherhood. Akhirnya Adipati Panser memutuskan untuk keluar dari Brotherhood. Setelah itu, Adipati Panser membentuk Grup lagi dengan nama CLAN. Grup yang beranggotakan Lima orang, yakni dua cowok dan tiga cewek ini mengusung aliran Top 40. Personel CLAN merupakan perwakilan dari beberapa vokalis yang ada di semarang. Mereka adalah penyanyi kafe yang sudah banyak memakan asam garam. Meski baru terbentuk sekitar dua bulan, namun CLAN langsung mendapatkan tawaran rekaman. Lewat kerja keras, terbitlah album CLAN yang diproduksi oleh IMC Records pada tahun 2004. Album CLAN ini menjadi album kedua dari Adipati Panser.

Berkecimpung di dunia Hip-Hop

Setelah lama berkecimpung di dunia musik Hip-Hop , akhirnya Adipati Panser bersama Hip-hopers yang ada di kota semarang sepakat untuk membentuk komunitas hip-Hop di kota Lumpia. Tepatnya pada tahun 2000 , terbetuklah komunitas musik Hip-hop di semarang dengan nama Semarang Hip-Hop Brotherhood. Dalam Hip-Hop Brotherhood ada beberapa grup Hip-Hop , antara lain Adipati Panser , ZBR , Saka Guru , Fresh Maker , Modus Operandi. Namun seiring berjalannya waktu , terdapat perbedaan antara satu dengan yang lain. Yang satu menginginkan Semarang Hip-hop Brotherhood harus A , sedangkan yang satu menginginkan harus B. Akhirnya , Brotherhood terpecah menjadi dua bagian. Dalam hal ini Adipati Panser masih bertahan di Hip-Hop Brotherhood. Karena Adipati Panser mempunyai cita-cita dalam bermusik. Tidak sekedar hura2 , buang uang dan energi. Setelah berjalan lima tahun, tepatnya pada tahun 2005 , Semarang Hip-Hop Brotherhood mengeluarkan album yang pertama. Album inilah yang menjadi album pertama Adipati Panser

Prestasi pertama Adipati Panser

Dalam waktu singkat, Adipati Panser mempunyai prestasi yang cukup tinggi. Lewat keikutsertaannya dalam kompetisi Rap 1997, Adipati Panser berhasil menjadi juara 3. Hal ini tentu diluar perkiraan. Karena Adipati tergolong Musisi baru di kota Semarang. Prestasi tersebut semakin menambah kepercayaan diri Adipati untuk lebih meningkatkan kemampuannya dalam musik Rap. Setiap hari, Adipati terus mengasah kemampuannya. Hasilnya, dalam setiap Festival Rap, nama Adipati Panser selalu berada dalam daftar pemenang.

Awal Pengenalan Hip-Hop Adipati Panser

Berawal dari kumpul ma bocah-bocah satu sekolahan waktu SMP. Adipati Panser mencoba menemukan bakat terpendamnya. Disetiap sabtu sore, tepatnya tahun 1995 Adipati Panser mencari tempat tongkrongan ma sobat untuk melihat acara musik di sekitar taman kb semarang. Disana Adipati Panser melihat penampilan anak muda semarang dengan berbagai macam penampilannya. Disitu mulailah Adipati Panser tertarik untuk menggali lebih dalam jiwa seni. Adipati Panser berangan2 untuk bisa tampil di panggung tersebut. Meski masih SMP, namun tidak membuat Adipati Panser takut. Maklum, semua pengisi acara rata2 adalah anak2 SMU dan kuliahan. Namun berkat dukungan semua Sobat, akhirnya bulan berikutnya Adipati Panser bisa tampil diatas panggung tersebut. Meski masih grogi, namun menjadi pelajaran yang sangat berarti. Begitulah sekilas perjalanan Musik Adipati Panser.
